World Cup 2000 - Match Reports

3rd Place Play-Offs

Women
NEW ZEALAND vs ENGLAND

Once again, the Women's competition dishes up another fascinating scenario.

On the second day of competition, England scored their first ever win in a World Cup - and it was against New Zealand. In the second meeting, New Zealand turned the tables. The total sum of winning margins in both these games is just 17.

As with the Women's Grand Final, this game involves two teams with a one-all record against each other. To say that both teams are keen to win would be like saying everyone hopes the sun rises tomorrow ... it will, and they are.

Well, in keeping with the first two games between these two sides, another close one - extremely close in fact.

Batting first, New Zealand scored 84.

England triumph - chasing 84, England scored their second ever World Cup victory by scoring 86. The young, relatively inexperienced English side have taken out third place in the World Cup, a fantastic effort.

England 86 defeated New Zealand 84
